Horses & Burros

Meet the Herd

Some have spent years in holding. Some come from urgent auction or kill-pen situations. Others need time, care, and training before they are ready to find their next home.

Nick

3

Mustang

Origin: McClean, Texas Kill Pen

Nick is a young BLM Mustang gelding from the North Stillwater HMA. Sweet, calm, and affectionate, he loves attention and has quickly stolen our hearts. Nick was dumped before completing the BLM titling process and came to us untitled. He is currently halter-broke and continuing his training at our Texas satellite location. Once Nick is officially titled and further along in his training, he will be available for adoption to the right home. ❤️🐴

Lyric

8 years old

Mustang

Origin: BLM holding facility

Lyric was captured as a baby and spent six years in a Bureau of Land Management holding facility. She was offered in three BLM online auctions, but no one bid on her until the rescue won her in 2025 as her only bidder.

Nevada

9 years old

Mustang

Origin: Stroud, Oklahoma kill pen

Nevada was saved from the Stroud, Oklahoma kill pen in fall 2023. After arriving at the rescue, it was discovered that she was pregnant — something no one had known at the time of her rescue.

Wyatt

2½ Years Old

Nevada's colt

Origin: Born at the rescue

Wyatt is Nevada's baby. He was born after Nevada's arrival at the rescue, when her pregnancy was discovered.

Wrangler

6½ years old

Quarter Horse

Origin: Auction rescue

Wrangler had been passed through several auctions without interest. The rescue was able to bid on him and keep him from entering the slaughter pipeline. He arrived at the rescue two days before his third birthday and has been there for 3½ years.

Cinnamon

About 4 years old

Quarter Horse

Origin: Stroud, Oklahoma kill pen

Cinnamon was saved from the Stroud, Oklahoma kill pen at the same time as Nevada. She was only one year old and two days away from being loaded onto a slaughter-bound truck. Three years later, she is thriving alongside Nevada and Wyatt and is especially attached to Nicole's autistic daughter.

Summer

Senior

Miniature Horse

Summer is a senior miniature horse who came to the rescue with Momma and Lucy, the donkeys. She has special needs and receives daily medication and a strict diet to manage laminitis.

Ariat

18 years old

Quarter Horse

Origin: Nicole's heart horse

Ariat is Nicole's "heart horse." She has been with Nicole for 10 years, beginning several years before the rescue was established. Although Ariat came from a horse trader, Nicole does not consider her a rescue; she describes Ariat as her heart and soul.

Could you be part of a horse’s next chapter?

Adoption can create life-changing futures for mustangs and burros who are ready for the right match. We look for committed individuals who understand the responsibility, facilities, patience, and long-term care that equines require.

Not ready to adopt? You can still make a difference.

Sponsor a horse or burro with a one-time or monthly donation. Your gift helps cover the practical care every rescue animal needs — feed, hay, veterinary care, hoof care, fencing, training, and more.
